Join us for Lit Lunch, our monthly sharing and critique group for writers! Bring a piece of your work or a question about writing to pose to the group. It happens sometimes: You can’t think of what to write, you're out of ideas, or maybe writing poetry has always daunted you. In this salon with Amy Miller, we’ll talk about some playful, unconventional exercises to help you get your creative sparks flying and write some poems: * Trick the brain into thinking poetry is easy by writing mini-poems on postcards and nametags. * Find inspiration in surprising places like DMV manuals, crime reports, and shopping lists. * Give your "camera" a wider lens by focusing poems on other people instead of the "I." * Use other art forms as springboards to start cycles of poems. * And more Amy Miller’s Astronauts won the Chad Walsh Chapbook Prize from Beloit Poetry Journal and was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award, and her full-length poetry collection The Trouble with New England Girls won the Louis Award from Concrete Wolf. Her poems have appeared in Copper Nickel, The Missouri Review, North American Review, Prairie Schooner, Terrain, and ZYZZYVA. A longtime book editor, she now works as a communications editor for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. For this salon, we are waiving the usual $10 fee for nonmembers, as we are utilizing a room at the public library and charging admission goes against their policies. We ask that in lieu of a donation to us, you consider making a donation to the Jackson County Libraries!

As a writer new to fiction, I was drawn to Rogue Writers Collective. I attended the release event for Volume I of The Rapids and found a small community of writers and artists with similar interests and passions. I’ve attended several workshops and happy hour events, and over time, have come to know some talented writers and artists. Besides feeling comfortable in this community of writers, one aspect I greatly admire is how welcoming everyone is to first-time participants. Writing for others and sharing our work can feel daunting, and those willing to share with others in Rogue Writers Collective can trust that they’ll be met with constructive feedback and kind hearts and considerate comments. If you’re new to writing, or a published author looking for like minded talent, Rogue Writers Collective is worth a look.
