The Rapids is a vibrant, biannual celebration of storytelling, visuals, and community rooted in Southern Oregon. Published by the Rogue Writers Collective, it spotlights fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and visual art from Josephine, Jackson, and Douglas Counties in Oregon.

The Rapids is published twice a year: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. We invite all writers and artists of Josephine, Jackson, and Douglas Counties in Oregon to submit your work. We are looking for short stories, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art.
There is no submission fee, though we may charge and entry fee for any contest we run. Instead, we pay our contributors!
Submission Windows
Spring/Summer: January 15 – February 15
Fall/Winter: July 1 – July 31
Contributor Payments
Poetry and Prose up to 750 words: $20
Art and Prose up to 1500 words: $35
Before submitting your work for consideration in an upcoming issue, we recommend ordering a copy of The Rapids to become familiar with the work we publish. Both print and ebook versions are available.
We started The Rapids as part of a collaborative project with a visual artist collective, but it’s grown to be so much more. It’s now the heartbeat of our organization, a true commitment to the creatives of Southern Oregon.
